Death Sentence for Gays – Is Uganda the world's homophobia Capital?

David Kato, considered the father of Uganda’s gay rights movement, was beaten to death with a hammer to his head in 2011 after a magazine had published his name and photograph identifying him as gay and calling for him to be executed.
The “Anti Homosexuality Bill”, first introduced by Hon. David Bahati, (NRM, Ndorwa West); a member of Uganda’s parliament is in the news again.
According to Helen Kawesa, Uganda’s parliamentary spokesperson, "The anti-homosexuality bill was re-tabled on the floor of the House today and has been referred to parliament's legal and parliamentary affairs committee for scrutiny. The committee is expected to examine it and conduct public hearings and then it will report back to the house for a formal debate on the bill."
If the “re-tabled” bill is passed, a mandatory death sentence will be issued for gays who are "repeat offenders".
In a statement issued by the White House, President Barack Obama denounced the bill as "odious". Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called on Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to reject the bill. International donors have also threatened to cut off aids if the “Anti Homosexuality Bill” goes into law.
In 2011, a prominent Ugandan gay rights campaigner, David Kato, was brutally beaten to death with a hammer to his head after a magazine had published his name and photograph identifying him as gay and calling for him to be executed.
With the possibility of the "Anti Homosexuality Bill” becoming a law, some have dubbed Uganda as the “world's homophobia capital".
