Verizon Wireless announced today that starting January 15, they will make some customers pay for the privilege of paying their bills. They will be instituting a "convenience charge" for those customers who make one-time bill payments using a debit or credit card, either online or by telephone.
It appears that the nation's largest wireless company, Verizon Wireless, has forgotten or had its head stuck in it’s a## during the Bank of America’s $5 fiasco.
After threatening customers with a $5 monthly fee for using debit cards, Bank of America subsequently scrapped the idea. The decision came after the strong will of “people power” in addition to major banks, including JP Morgan Chase and Wells Fargo, giving up on similar plans and other regional banks that had already implemented the fees backed off.

There are three ways for customers to avoid the charge: Customers can make a one-time payment using an electronic check, they can pay their bill using their home banking accounts or they can use a Verizon gift card or rebate card. Otherwise, single telephone and online payments will incur a $2 fee.
