Bishop Eddie Long and wife Vanessa Long. Bishop Long financially settles sexual coercion lawsuit against three boys.
Reports from the DeKalb County Courthouse in DeKalb County, Georgia shows that Bishop Eddie Lee Long, the prominent and well known African-American pastor of the mega-church, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, has reached a financial settlement with plaintiffs Anthony Flagg, 21 year-old; Maurice Robinson, 20 year-old; and Jamal Parris, 23 year-old. The three plaintiffs had sued the bishop, seeking unspecified monetary damages, for coercing them into sexual acts. The plaintiffs were unknown to one another, prior to the first plaintiff going public with his lawsuit.
Long, who is also married, is the senior pastor at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church located in Lithonia, Georgia. Prior to the lawsuits, Long was known for his inflammatory anti-gay rhetoric.
Details from the lawsuits are too gross and sexually explicit to repeat on this site. However, the lawsuits did note that, "Long has a pattern and practice of singling out a select group of young male church members and using his authority as bishop over them to ultimately bring them to engage in sexual relationships."
