Hales Franciscan, a private and predominantly African-American all-male Catholic high school is located at 4930 South Cottage Grove Avenue in Chicago. Hales plays in the powerful Chicago Catholic League. The Chicago Catholic League is comprised of mostly Class 3A and 4A schools. It includes outstanding schools such as Fenwick, De La Salle, St. Leo, Mount Carmel and many others. Hales Spartan is a basketball powerhouse that spends its season playing upper-class teams in Chicagoland.
The Armstead brothers combined to scored 30 of the team's 61 points. Aaric Armstead scored 18 points, Aaron Armstead scored 12 points and Eddie Alcantara scored 15 points respectively. The final scores were 61-47 victory for the Spartans.
Congratulation also goes to the Murphysboro's Red Devils. They were an outstanding team! They had a great and historic season; coming into the finals with a 35-0 record. For Murphysboro, the final four marked the school's fourth trip to the final four and first in nearly 30 years.
The Illinois High School Boys Basketball Championship is a single elimination tournament held each spring. It is organized by the Illinois High School Association (IHSA).
From 1908-1971, it was a single tournament contested by nearly all high schools in Illinois. In 1972, the tournament was divided into two divisions based on school size, (A and AA), each producing a separate champion. In 2008, the tournament was divided into four separate divisions (1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A).
