Iraqi immigrant Noor Faleh Almaleki, 20-year-old, was ran over and killed by her father because she had become too westernized.
A Maricopa County, Arizona, jury convicted Almaleki, 50-year-old, on Tuesday of second-degree murder in the 2009 death of Noor Faleh Almaleki, 20-year-old. He was also found guilty of aggravated assault, for causing serious injuries to Amal Edan Khalaf, the mother of Noor's fiance, and two counts of leaving the scene. He was acquitted of first-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder charges.
Too often, in the selfish male-dominated and so-called traditional Arab traditions, men see women as an object, veiled and under virtual house arrest. This eventually triggers a barbaric and so-called “honor killing,” when their daughters or wives gravitate toward the freedom to choose.
