
Nigerian-born John Abraham Godson becomes Poland first Black Member of Parliament
In 2007, Godson unsuccessfully ran in the Polish parliamentary election. In 2010, he was elected to the City Council with 4736 votes, the second best result out of almost 800 candidates. He was sworn in on December 14, 2010.
Godson is a graduate of Abia State University in Nigeria. He also holds a Masters degree in International relations from the Łódź Academy of International Studies. He is reportedly in the process of earning two doctorate degrees at the University of Warsaw (political Science) and University of Lodz (Management). He is also participating in the joint MBA/Master of Science in Professional Communication (MSPC) run by Clark University and the Łódź Academy of Management.
Other Nigerian-born politicians in Europe include Chief T.A.O Osuji, a Dutch politician; Rotimi Adebari, an Irish mayor and Chuka Umunna, a British Labour MP.
