Gov. Haley Barbour suspends the sentences of Jamie and Gladys Scott

Thanks to Choke Lumumba, the attorney for the Scott sisters; the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People); Michael Baisden of “The Michael Baisden;” Tom Joyner of “The Tom Joyner Morning Show;” Rev. Al Sharpton; and to entire African-American blogosphere community for their untireless efforts in taking the Jamie and Gladys Scott case public.

Yesterday, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour issued two indefinite orders suspending the sentences of Jamie and Gladys Scott. The governor's order stands on the condition that Gladys donates one of her kidneys to her ailing sister. 

The sisters have been in prison for the past 16 years. On December 24, 1993, the two sisters

were arrested in Forest, Mississippi for an alleged involvement in an armed robbery of two African American men. According to court document, the sisters collaborated with three teenagers and lured the two men down a road in Forest, where the men were robbed by the teens. The teens struck both men in the head with a shotgun and took their wallets containing a total of $11 dollars, according to court documents. At the time of the crime, Jamie Scott was 20 year-old and Gladys Scott was 19 year-old, both of them were mothers at the time of the crime.

    The attorney for the Scott Sisters said back in October on internet radio show “Center Stage” that these ladies could possibly be home by X-mas, can’t get much closer than that. He vowed to never stop fighting for their freedom, listen to the interview.
