September 30th is National Law Of Reciprocity Day

On this 30th day of September 2010, let's make it a National Law Of Reciprocity Day by helping feed a homeless person, helping someone find a job, helping that classmate that is struggling or paying the toll for the person behind us. Make it a pledge today to help at least three people without an expectation of a return favor.

Today, at the expense of the struggling tax payers, congress is expected to adjourn again until early November so members can campaign for the November midterm elections. The House Democrats barely won a 210-209 vote to adjourn the House without extending the Bush tax cuts. They certainly didn't have the time to take a look at the National Law Of Reciprocity Day Bill. So, I went ahead and unilaterally passed the bill by proclaiming September 30th as the National Law Of Reciprocity Day.

On a more serious note, there was never a National Law Of Reciprocity Day Bill waiting for congress' approval; I made it up. The idea of “September 30th is National Law Of Reciprocity Day,” came to mind after seeing several blog headlines about “National Coffee Day 2010.” What do I think about “National Coffee Day 2010?” I think it is a money hungry campaign full of corporate greed with the primary objective of serving the self centered attitudes of the prominent coffee companies out there. The objective of their so-called scheme disguised as “National Coffee Day 2010” is to give you a free tiny cup of their generic brand coffee as a promotion. Some of the coffee companies were even requiring that you purchase another item to receive the free tiny cup of coffee. For a free tiny cup of coffee, some of the prominent companies were asking that you become their fan Facebook. Forget them and become our Facebook fan instead!

I am about to descend from my soap box. What is the law of reciprocity you might asked?

In the Acts of the Apostles, Acts 20:35 (New International Version) states:

“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' "

If you are not familiar with Acts 20:35, than you might have most likely heard the quote – it’s better to give than receive? Sure you have! My Streetwise vendor tells me that all the time!

Contrary to majority belief, the law of reciprocity is not based on theory or speculation. What at one point was believed to be only theoretical, mystical, or spiritual in nature and understood only by those who learned to tap into the place from where "Higher Truth" comes, has now emerged and become evident in the accumulation of wealth and scientific discoveries for anyone that believes it.

The law of reciprocity which is sometime referred to as universal laws, spiritual laws or laws of nature are the unwavering and unchanging principles that govern every aspect of the universe and man as he relates and interfaces with one another.

Whether you give time, job, ride, knowledge, money or even tangible things – you get it back tenfold. That being said, the law of reciprocity doesn’t stop there. It extends to your neighborhood, your personal or professional interactions. When you participate in your local community, your local public school, homeless shelter, Red Cross, through your child’s school, whether it is through your church, your local neighborhood education program, common courtesy, local team sports, your home owner’s association, the homeless shelter, your community’s cultural events and so on, you’re volunteering your time. You’re sharing your knowledge and experience with those who can most benefit from it.

So how does the law of reciprocity work if you’re volunteering your time as listed above? The answer is, it just does. It is unexplainable!

It’s important to remember that “God prospers us not to raise our standard of living, but our standard of giving”. As stated earlier, Jesus says that it is “more blessed to give than to receive”. Isn’t it a blessing to know that you’ve helped out someone in need? Doesn’t it make you feel good? I think it feels a lot better to give to help someone else than when someone gives to us.

On this 30th day of September 2010, let's make it a National Law Of Reciprocity Day by helping feed a homeless person, helping someone find a job, helping that classmate that is struggling or paying the toll for the person behind us. Make it a pledge today to help at least three people without an expectation of a return favor. Please please please don't dilute the strength of the law of reciprocity by injecting race as to who you should help. In God's eyes, race doesn't exist. God Bless You!

Not to show off, but would you please tell us what you plan to do today? Or, come back later and  let us know how you help three people today? Please mention your city, state and  what "Law Of Reciprocity Day" deed you performed.
