Racism toward Blacks in Spain is not unusual. It is highly noticeable during Spain’s soccer events. Fans as well as coaches and officials, have become infamous for heckling black players.
The advisory was removed before Mrs. Obama arrived in Spain on Wednesday.
State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said the advisory referred to "an incident that occurred about 18 months ago," which he didn't describe. "Upon review, we thought it was no longer current, and we removed it," Crowley said.
Racism toward Blacks in Spain is not unusual and appears to be systemic. Spain's anti-black behavior is highly noticeable during soccer events. Fans as well as coaches and officials, have become infamous for heckling black players. They've been heard and seen chanting "monkey" at non-white players, throwing bananas onto the field, spitting, and holding up insulting signs at times that read, "Peanuts and bananas are the pay for your infamy."
