New Orleans Hornets Chris Paul
Earlier this month, New Orleans Hornets' Chris Paul, 25 year-old, requested to be traded. Although Paul cannot opt out of his contract for two years, he requested to be dealt to either the New York Knicks or Orlando Magic. In 2008, he signed a four-year, $68 million extension that went into effect last season. The extension includes a player's option for the fourth year. Paul missed the entire 2008-09 playoffs including 37 missed games due to three separate injuries.
After a 90 minute tête-à-tête on Monday with coach Monty Williams, general manager Dell Demps and team president Hugh Weber in New Orleans, the superstar point guard decided to stay and make things work out in New Orleans.
In a statement following the meeting, Paul said, "the meeting went well. … I expressed my desire to win and I like what they said about the direction that they want to take the team. I have been a Hornet my entire career and I hope to represent the city of New Orleans and state of Louisiana for many years to come."
Paul's frustration, is believed to have stemmed from the Hornets' steady decline, the trading of center Tyson Chandler and the firing of coach Byron Scott, both were close to Paul.
Earlier this month, Paul changed his basketball and marketing agents Octagon and joined his close friend LeBron James' LRMR Marketing.
