Chicago Malcolm X College Offers WordPress Workshop

Under the leadership of Malcolm X College’s President Ghingo Brooks, the institution continues to commit itself to preparing students and the community for job readiness and training small businesses in preparing themselves to weatherproof their businesses during this stormy economy.

In that vein, the college has teamed up with an influential blogger, Charles Mombo, to offer a Continuing Education WordPress workshop. The workshop is geared to assisting bloggers, the general public and business owners toward starting or growing their businesses while using the world's most popular blogging application – WordPress.

Workshop Dates: 09/11/2010 & 09/18/2010 (Two consecutive Saturday)
Lecture Hours: 8:30 am – 2:00 pm

Students will be provided with a FREE 2GB USB flash drive and trained on the applications contained within the flash drive:

OpenOffice (word processor, spreadsheet, presentations with Microsoft compatibility)
Firefox Browser
WinSCP (FTP Application)
7-Zip (File archiver and compressor)
GIMP (Photo and Image Editor)
KompoZer (webpage editor)
Notepad++ (text editor)
WordPress 3.0.1 or latest version

4 Most Popular WordPress Themes

Upon completion of the workshop, attendees should be able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of WordPress user interface.
Download install and upgrade WordPress.
Demonstrate knowledge in the use of WordPress in creating a “Post” and “Page”
Select a web hosting package and the usage of an FTP application
Use Open Source applications (HTML Editor and text Editor)
Demonstrate basic usage of .htaccess
Use of WordPress plugins and themes.
Select some of the MUST have WordPress plugins.
Understand Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and increase website traffic
Learn the strategies for monetizing a WordPress blog.
Find customers that looking for your services
Learn to use Analytic tools
Identify WordPress functionality
Use social networking and social bookmarking applications

About the workshop Presenter:

Charles S. Mombo

Charles holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, a Master of Science degree in Management Information Systems (MSMIS), and a Master degree in Business Administration (MBA).

As an Adjunct Professor, he teaches Computer Science and Business classes at Malcolm X and Harold Washington Colleges.

He is the founder of wwClick.com, Inc. a search engine optimization and social media consulting firm

Charles was recently invited by Columbia College and served as a panelist on their 2010 Making Media Connections Conference. As a panelist, he served on two workshops: Pitching Bloggers and Influential Bloggers.
