Michael Steele, the Republican National Committee Chairman is known for putting his foot in his mouth, but this time even members of his own Republican party are questioning his leadership or lack of leadership over comments he recently made that appear to undermine the morale of the U.S troops in Afghanistan.
Steele was recorded yesterday during a fund-raising event for the Connecticut Republican Party. On the video, he referred to the conflict in Afghanistan as "a war of Obama's choosing" and implied that the effort is certain to fail. It appears that Steele was not aware that he was being recorded.
"If he's such a student of history," Steele said, referring to President Barack Obama, "has he not understood that, you know, that's the one thing you don't do, is engage in a land war in Afghanistan? Everyone who has tried, over 1,000 years of history, has failed."
He described the events surrounding the dismissal of General Stanley McChrystal as the top commander in Afghanistan as "comical."
A war of Obama's choosing??? Steele has apparently forgotten how we got into Afghanistan in the first place!
