In 2005, 33 year-old Kanye West , hosted a party in celebration of the MTV Video Music Awards at the Shore Club in Miami. Among his invited celebrity guests was Marion Knight, 45 year-old, also known as Suge Knight.
According to court papers, during the party, a lone gunman made his way into the party shooting and shattering Knight's femur which left him with $200,000 in medical bills. No arrest was made in the shooting.
Yesterday, Knight, West and their respective lawyers had a tête-à-tête to settle the issue out of court. The private conversation between the two parties did not yield any positive result, at least according Knight's statement. "I figured I could sit him down, man to man, and get this resolved," Knight said, after the six-hour, closed-door session at a Fifth Avenue office. "I'm disappointed," said Knight.
West has always said, he was not involved in the security arrangements for the party and should not have to pay a penny towards Knight's claims. Shore Club ownership have also denied Knight's claims of negligence.
Knight who is known for his regular run-ins with the law filed for bankruptcy in 2006. If he succeeds in his lawsuit, he will have to share the money with a bankruptcy trustee and the Internal Revenue Service.
Relatives and friends of the late Notorious B.I.G. have long suspected Knight of being involved in the death of B.I.G.. Knight was never named as a suspect by the police.
