Aiyana Stanley-Jones shot by Detroit Police during raid
During the early morning hours of last Sunday May 16, Detroit Police raided Aiyana's family home in search of a suspected murder, Chauncey Owens, 34 year-old. Owens, Aiyana aunt's fiancee was wanted for the murder of Jerean Blake 17 year-old two days earlier.
There are many unanswered questions that perturbs me about this case. Did the family knowingly have a suspected murder in their home? Why didn't the police use the cordon and knock or cordon and kick procedure? Why did the police throw several rounds of flash-bang grenades through the front window when they already knew that there were other innocent individuals in the home? Did the police relax their rules of engagement because they were dealing with an African American family? Was the police overly zealous behavior influenced by the presence of reality camera crew – "The First 48" that was recording the raid?
Mean while, the family announced that Aiyana's funeral will take place on Saturday, May 22. Visitation will take place Friday, May 21 from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. at Swanson Funeral Home on East Grand Boulevard. Donations for “Aiyana Stanley Jones Fund” can be made at any Fifth Third Bank branch. Rev. Al Sharpton plans to deliver the eulogy at the funeral. A statement Wednesday from Sharpton's National Action Network said the family of Aiyana Stanley Jones and their lawyer asked him to speak during Saturday's services at Second Ebenezer Church in Detroit.
What is sad here is that there are two young African American victims – Jarean Blake and Aiyana Stanley Jones. These kids are gone, are their deaths due to the heinous acts of Chauncey Owens?

It is so sad that these young people had lost their lives, due to people who should not of been in the home that they were in. We have to be careful about what we allow around our children. We also need more information put out on the lost of life of the 17 year old whose life was taken then the sleeping 7 year old.
