Here is another case of a White person subconsciously or maybe consciously subscribing to the stereotype and negative depictions of the African American male as a criminal element in our society.
On April 5, Philadelphia Police Department issued an all-points bulletin (APB) for the arrest of two Black or African American males for reportedly shooting and wounding a white police officer, Sgt. Robert Ralston, 46 year-old.
The problem here is Sgt. Ralston lied. After about a month of investigation, Ralson finally admitted to authorities that he shot himself intentionally. Ralston said he made up the story, possibly to a get attention or a transfer. He had originally reported that he saw two African-American males arguing on a train track in West Philadelphia. He told investigators that when he stopped the two men for questioning one of them pulled out a gun and shot him in the left shoulder. Ralston told police his attackers were black because the district where the shooting took place is predominately black.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, said "The evidence never did match up. We have forensic evidence at the scene that did not match with the story".
According to the Philadelphia police's website, Ralston is a 21-year veteran of the force. He is expected to pay the cost of the investigation and has been suspended with paid. Ralston will not face criminal charges because police granted him immunity to obtain his confession.
