Black male mask used by Conrad Zdzierak, a White robber to disguised as an African AmericanI find it extremely alarming when a White person subconsciously subscribes to the stereotype and negative depictions of the African American male as a criminal element in our society. Too often we have seen cases where a White person is subsequently charged for a crime they claimed a Black man committed. I can’t imagine the number of Blacks that were falsely accused, innocently imprisoned or executed because of the so-called Black demon syndrome.
Conrad Zdzierak, a 30 year-old, White bank robber invested (for lack of better word) $700.00 of his money to purchase a Black skin-tone looking silicon mask and matching gloves for the sole purpose of robbing banks under the disguise of an Black male. He is believed to have robbed six banks in the Ohio area.
Police in Springdale, Ohio released camera footage from the banks, appealing for public help in finding what they believed was an African-American male. But after a tip-off, officers found Zdzierak staying at a nearby hotel. Lieutenant Michael Mathis from the Springdale Police Department admitted police were fooled by the disguise and said he had never seen anything like it.
Only God knows the amount of brothers that were wrongly pulled over and searched in the vicinities of Zdzierak’s crime spree.
