Sisters Embracing Life (SEL) is a minority cancer awareness support organization that was founded in April 2001 by Lula Gordon, a group of cancer survivors and friends. The organization operates as a 501 © 3 not-for-profit organization. The main focus of SEL is to support, educate, teach, console, enlighten, and advocate or cancer awareness and prevention in the underserved communities.
According to SEL’s President, Lula Gordon, “The stories that are shared among us are unique, poignant, but most of all they are first-hand accounts of personal experiences from those living with cancer. As a cancer survivor myself, I truly understand the importance of compassion, empathy, a warm touch, but most of all, unwavering faith. Studies have shown that these things can make a difference in one’s attitude and overall recovery. I can truly say from my own experiences that they do make a difference.”
Sisters Embracing Life’s 10th anniversary dinner and celebration will be held on April 24, 2010, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. at Pierre’s Banquet Hall, 3237 S. Harlem, Berwyn, Illinois. A ticket for this dinner, silent auction, live entertainment and 2 hour premium open bar is ONLY $65.00.
