Popular rap and hip-hop singer Akon, had an April scheduled concert in Sri Lanka, the Buddhist-majority nation but it appears that the concert will not be taking place. On Monday, hundreds of rock-throwing protesters attacked the headquarters of Sri Lanka's largest private broadcaster, which is the sponsor of Akon's planned concert. For his own safety, the Sri Lanka government plans to deny him an entry visa to perform.

The protesters were angered by David Guetta featuring Akon "Sexy Bitch" video, in which a statue of the Buddha is shown with girls in bikinis tanning and swimming.

Buddhism in Sri Lanka is the main religious faith of about 70% of the country’s population of 20 million people.

Akon is quoted as saying, "I was not aware that the statue was even on the set of the video until now. I would never set out to offend or desecrate anyone's religion or religious beliefs."

Akon’s birth name is Aliaune Badara Akon Thiam. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Senegalese parents and grew up in Senegal until the age of 15.
