Today, Lil Wayne was expected to begin serving his one-year sentence at Rikers Island Prison on weapons-possession charge, but his sentencing was postponed until March 2, to take care of some dental related issues.

Rikers Island is New York City's main jail complex. The island is named after Abraham Rycken. His descendants owned Rikers Island until 1884, when it was sold to the city for $180,000. It has been used as a jail ever since.

Lil Wayne was quoted in the past as saying his gems are fixed to his teeth and cannot be remove. He had also stated that he is careful of what he eats and always takes care to brush them after every meal. "I brush them after dinner, after lunch with Colgate," he said. He also estimates he has $150,000 worth of diamonds in his mouth and they're permanent. He adds, "I can go to the dentist and switch them out, but it's surgery."

The rapper pleaded guilty to the “attempted” criminal possession of a weapon, charges which stemmed from a 2007 arrest.
