Liberian Born Sergeant Albert Dono Ware from Chicago, Illinois
It seems like it was just yesterday when you arrived from Liberia. It seems like it was just yesterday when you graduated from Corliss High School. It seems like it was just yesterday when you left Kennedy-King College and Chicago State University and joined the Illinois National Guard for 2 1/2 years. It seems like it was just yesterday when you decided to join the Army full-time. It seems like it was just yesterday when you completed your first tour of duty. It seems like it was just yesterday when you began your second tour of duty. It seems like it was just yesterday when you were here with us, but now you've gone away. I wish I could talk to you, I wish I could see you again and say “hey Dono,” and hear you say “hey Uncle Charles.” I wish I could give you a big hug and say the last goodbye. Everyone else wishes that too. We Love you Albert and miss you.
While supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in the Arghandab River Valley of Afghanistan on December 18, 2009, Sgt. The other morning I opened the Chicago Tribune paper to find an obituary of another young man killed in Afghanistan. His name was Sergeant Albert Ware. Sergeant Albert Ware was killed by a roadside bomb while on night patrol in Afghanistan Dec. 18. Few months after his second deployment.
I did not know Sergeant Ware personally, but his face looks very familiar, as a member on the Liberian soccer team and because he was a Chicago local that my husband played soccer with at the same Jackson Park where Sergeant Albert Ware played, his death felt personal to me. Rest in Peace Sergeant Albert.
Albert, rest in peace…you will forever remain in my thoughts and prayers.
Uncle Charles
I remember April of 1995 when my two daughters [Joy and Joilisa] and I travelled to OHare Airport with your dad and new mom….your dad was wondering if we would recognize you…when you came off the plane chewing a wad of gum bigger than you with two different patterns of flowers on the top and shorts we for sure knew it was you…you have been a delight to our lives and you will forever be missed. Thanks for serving our country with courage and pride…Until we meet again…Love your sister's NuNu
