Congratulations to Mark Ingram and the University of Alabama family for winning the 75th Heisman Memorial Trophy. Ingram was selected on December 12, 2009. The sophomore running back of the Crimson Tide was selected as the Most Outstanding College Football Player in the United States for the year 2009, according to Heisman's Web site. Ingram's selection marks the first time a member of the University of Alabama has won the Heisman Memorial Trophy.

The 2009 Heisman Finalists were Toby Gerhart, Stanford University; Mark Ingram, University of Alabama; Colt McCoy, University of Texas; Ndamukong Suh, University of Nebraska; and
Tim Tebow, University of Florida.

The 5’10”, 215-pound Ingram will officially be honored at the 75th annual Heisman Memorial Trophy Award Dinner on Monday evening, December 14th at the Marriot Marquis in New York.

During the tearful acceptance speech, Ingram said, “It hasn’t always been easy for my family,” “but I would also tell everyone to never let anyone bump you off your track.”

Ingram's father is 44 year-old former NFL wide receiver Mark Ingram, who won a Super Bowl in 1991 with the New York Giants.

About a year ago, Ingram, Sr. failed to report to a federal prison in Ashland, Kentucky. While Ingram, Jr. was preparing for the Sugar Bowl, a national manhunt was issued for the arrest of his father. About two hours before kickoff, the United States marshals arrested Ingram, Sr. in Flint, Michigan. Ingram, Sr. is serving 92 months prison time for bank-fraud and money-laundering charges.

Please join Chocolate City in congratulating and wishing Mark Ingram all the best in the future.
