9.5 Steps to Improving Your Website or Blog Pagerank

Pagerank, also known as PR, is the term created by Google in determining a site placement with regards to their algorithm which ranks web pages. It said that Larry Page, Google’s cofounder along with Sergey Brin developed the Google ranking algorithm process.

Google uses a scale to value the importance of each web page. The exact Pagerank of webpages are not published; however, Google does report whole number values based on a 0 to 10 scale. A scale of 10 is the highest ranking thus far.

1.    You MUST include a meta tag for “Title”, “Description,” and “Keywords”. Make sure that your <title> elements and ALT attributes are descriptive and accurate. I will expect at least the first 7 words in your title to mentioned something about what your site is about. Avoid the usual and useless title of “Home or Homepage.”

a.    We will used the site, http://www.chocolatecity.cc, as an example:

2.    If you don’t already have one, you MUST create a Sitemap for your website. If you are using a blog, check for a plug-in for sitemap that is comparable to your blog type.  This site creates a FREE sitemap for you: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/. Google and other search engines use your sitemap to learn about the structure of your site and to increase coverage of the pages on your blog or website.

             If you don’t already have one, you MUST create a robots.txt.  Robots.txt resides within your root directory. The content of your website robots.txt will similar to this:

 

            User-Agent: *

            Allow: /

 

Sitemap: http://www.chocolatecity.cc/sitemap.xml

3.    You need to write effective ALT text for the images on you page – An example:

 <img src="filename.gif" alt="Alternative description goes here">

 

4.    After generating your sitemap, register with Google webmaster tool ( https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/docs/en/about.html sign in and enter your sitemap.xml. register with Yahoo’s webmaster tool: https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/ register and enter your “urllist.txt”. Register with https://www.bing.com/webmaste and enter your sitemap.xml.

5.    Depending on your site content, exchange links with other similar sites

6.    If you don’t have one, attach a blog to your main site and write articles about related issues.

7.    Avoid "Broken Links" on your website.

8.    Avoid exchanging links with link farms or linking out to "Bad Neighborhoods."

9.    Last but not least, register for Google Analytics code to track/see where your users are coming from and what keywords they are using to find you.

9.5 The Over-All Page Quality and Content of your website or blog should play a greater role in how well your page ranks.

The above recommended 9.5 steps are not limited to only Google. Following these steps will definite enhance your website or blog ranking on major search engines.
