What is officially known is that – around 2:25 a.m. Tiger left his house in Windermere, Florida, got into his 2009 Cadillac Escalade drove off and hit a fire hydrant and a tree. According to Police report, the air bags of Tiger's 2009 Escalade did not deploy, meaning Woods was likely driving slower than 33 mph. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the back window of the Escalade was smash with a golf club. According to Police, no indication of drugs or alcohol was involved in the accident. On Sunday police released the 911 tape related to the incident, with a neighbor telling police that someone was lying on the ground and unconscious.
Now this is where the story gets strange – According to Windermere Police Chief Daniel Saylor, Woods' wife Elin Nordegren said she heard the crash from inside the couple's home and went to her spouse's aid. The police also added, that the one-time Swedish model told them that she grabbed a golf club, smashed out a rear window in the SUV and helped bleeding Woods out of the wreck. Tiger is 6-foot-1, 185-pound.
Tiger's accident came on the heels of reports in various tabloids with him on their front pages connecting him to an affair with Rachel Uchitel. Uchitel is a New York nightclub hostess. Ms. Uchitel has denied having an affair with Tiger.
According to a Sunday's update on Tiger's official website, web.tigerwoods.com:
As you all know, I had a single-car accident earlier this week, and sustained some injuries. I have some cuts, bruising and right now I'm pretty sore.
This situation is my fault, and it's obviously embarrassing to my family and me. I'm human and I'm not perfect. I will certainly make sure this doesn't happen again.
This is a private matter and I want to keep it that way. Although I understand there is curiosity, the many false, unfounded and malicious rumors that are currently circulating about my family and me are irresponsible.
The only person responsible for the accident is me. My wife, Elin, acted courageously when she saw I was hurt and in trouble. She was the first person to help me. Any other assertion is absolutely false.
This incident has been stressful and very difficult for Elin, our family and me. I appreciate all the concern and well wishes that we have received. But, I would also ask for some understanding that my family and I deserve some privacy no matter how intrusive some people can be.
Tiger is the world's No. 1 golfer. By the age of 5, he was featured regularly in Golf Digest and appearing on the TV program 'That's Incredible'. At the age of 15, he became the youngest ever U.S. Junior Amateur Champion, a title he retained twice. At the age of 19 he became the youngest ever United States Amateur Golf Champion. In 1997, Tiger won the Masters by an unbelievable huge margin of 12 shots, becoming the youngest winner in the tournament's history and the first African-American to win the title at a championship.
He is the only child of Earl Woods' second marriage to Kultida Punsawad, a Thai woman he met in Bangkok. They married in 1969, and moved to Orange County in California, where Tiger was born in 1975. He was nicknamed Tiger in recognition of the friendship of his father for Colonel Vuong Dang 'Tiger' Phong, of the Vietnamese Army. Tiger and his wife have two children, 2-year-old Sam and 9-month-old Charlie.
Tiger, the world's top golfer, refusal to speak to the police about the accident has only added to speculations around the blogospher about his accident.
Whatever the case, we wish Tiger a speedy recovery.
