Dr. King holds his nobel peace prize which must be turned over to the court to hold.
On the other hand, whenever his name is mentioned in conjunction with his children, I immediately form a mental image of fighting, disagreement, disharmony, and war.
Last night, as I walking passed the TV, a statement from the news headline immediately grabbed my attention when the newsman said, “A judge has ordered the children of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. to meet in their capacity as the sole shareholders of the corporation that manages their iconic father’s estate.” Immediately, my mind registered children yelling, and screaming, fight, fight as if to encourage a fight already in progress. This is very sad!
The children of the “King of Peace” are at it again. This time they were in Fulton County, Georgia, Superior Court on Monday in a dispute over their parents’ estates. Two children of the civil rights icon, Rev. Bernice King and Martin Luther King III are suing their brother Dexter King, accusing him of wrongfully taking money from their parents’ estates.
The allegation is that Dexter took "substantial funds" out of Coretta Scott King’s estate and "wrongfully appropriated" money from their father’s estate.
Dexter King has denied taking "substantial funds" from his parents’ estates. Dexter King has also filed a counter claim against his sister, asking the court to force her to hand over to the corporation some items that belonged to Martin Luther King Jr.
It is reported that the three siblings have not held such a meeting since 2004. The presiding Judge, Ural Glanville on Monday also ruled in favor of dismissing some of the allegations against Dexter King, but left the question of whether he failed to act in the best interest of his father’s incorporated estate to a jury. A trial on the allegation of breach of fiduciary duty could happen as early as next month.
On Monday, the judge ruled that Dr. King Jr.’s Nobel Peace Prize and his love letters to Coretta Scott King must be turned over to the court to hold until a resolution is reached. Dr. King’s Nobel Peace Prize in the possession of the court??? This alone should cause his KIDS to stop the fight and act as grown-ups.
Rev. Bernice King, Martin Luther King III and Dexter King might used the excuse that this is a family matter and it should not be in the news. The problem here is Dr. King is not just an anybody, whenever his name is mentioned in places around the world, people stop and listen. I can also imagine that if Dr. King had foreseen this day, he would have given his property to charity.
So blogosphere, how do you think Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would have handle the craziness of his children if he was alive today?

From every indication, the Dr. King children are not responsible and grown enough to handle their
parent estate.
Dr. and Mrs. King should have done exactly what Michael Jackson did by putting the estate in the control of executor.
I have always viewed the King children as selfish spoiled brats. Their latest actions just confirm my long held opinions.
