Lynn Jenkin - Republican Congresswoman from Kansas
As far as I am concern, Rep. Lynn Jenkins did not do anything wrong. She is entitle to her opinion which some believed was reflective of the overall policy of the Grand Ole Party.
As I listened to Rep. Jenkins’ comments, I could not help but wonder what future does Michael Steele or other progressive and upcoming Hispanic American, Asian American or African American have in the party?
Steele, an African American is the chairman of the Republican National Committee.
The phrase “Great White Hope” originated in the early 20th century when whites were upset that John Arthur Jack Johnson, an African American become the heavyweight boxing champion. Whites at the time went on a mission to find a Great White Hope to dethrone the boxer. Unsuccessful in their quest, the boxing legend was wrongly charged with racially motivated conviction in 1913 under the Mann Act, which prohibited taking White women across state lines for “immoral purposes.”
Sound Off: Do you think a “Great White Hope” is the best solution for the Republican Party to stop President Obama’s policy agenda?
