Obama – I will get shot if I try to break into white house

President Barack Obama said “if I were to break into the White House, I will get shot.” The president  was responding to a question by Sun-Times Washington Bureau Chief Lynn Sweet, when she asked what he thought about the recent arrest of Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr.?
The president added that his response to the question might be bias, because he knew Dr. Gates personally. The president also noted that he did not know the full story, but he though it was stupid to arrest the professor in his own house after he identified himself.

Henry Louis Gates Jr. was arrested last week for disorderly conduct after a neighbor saw him breaking into his house and called police. Dr. Gates had just returned home from a trip to China, and was inside his own house. When a white officer responded to the call, he felt that Gates was being disorderly and arrested him.

Henry Louis Gates, Jr., is the Alphonse Fletcher University Professor and the Director of the W. E. B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research at Harvard University.

Professor Gates is Editor-in-Chief of TheRoot.com, a daily online magazine focusing on issues of interest to the African American community and written from an African American perspective, and the Oxford African American Studies Center, the first comprehensive scholarly online resource in the field of African American and Africana Studies. He is co-editor, with K. Anthony Appiah, of Africana: The Encyclopedia of the African and African American Experience. With Evelyn Brooks Higginbotham, he is the co-editor of the eight-volume biographical encyclopedia African American National Biography.
