Please have pity on me for having nothing better to do than to post a blog about the President of the United States killing a fly. The fact is, I could not resist sharing this blog with those that have not heard the story. I must confess that my attitude towards killing a fly is completely opposite of PETA’s (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). Those irritable and food contaminating miniature looking monsters have no place in our houses.
President Obama slapped dead an annoying fly during a news interview. Interrupting his television interview momentarily the fly landed on his left hand, President Obama hit it with his right. "I got the sucker," he said, as the apparently dead fly fell to the White House carpet.
Lots of people contacted PETA wanting to know PETA’s official response to the executive insect execution. Below is PETA’s response:
“In a nutshell, our position is this: He isn’t the Buddha, he’s a human being, and human beings have a long way to go before they think before they act.
If all this has you wondering how you can be a bigger person (figuratively, as well as literally) in your dealings with exoskeletal beings, check out our handy-dandy bug catcher—one of which we are sending to President Obama for future insect incidents. I can tell you from personal experience that it sure came in handy the other day, when one of my cats was chasing the World’s Largest Palmetto Bug around the house.”
Even BBC.com provided their two cents on the issues by suggesting 10 BEST ways to swat a fly? Here are the 10 suggestions:
1. Do it early
2. Approach from behind,
3. Aim ahead, rather
4. The old-fashioned slap
5. Implements with holes
6. Use chopsticks, like the Karate Kid.
7. Put hands either
8. Get a gadget.
9. Improvise with a rolled-up newspaper (bear in mind point five, above), or a spray window-cleaner.
10. The humane approach – to capture but not kill.
