
Geraldine Sam reacts in March 2008 after the cast of Oprah's Big Give has secured a new playground for Simms Elementary School.
Geraldine Sam, 57 year-old is a lifelong resident of La Marque and a first grade teacher at Simms Elementary School.
Sam won with the narrowest margin ever in city history. Sam received 355 votes, outlasting challengers James Osteen who received 316 votes, and Bill Charbonneau received 289 votes.
By La Marque city’s charter, the candidate with the most votes is elected. La Marque do not have run off election. Sam is expected to serve a three-year term.
Sam, has taught for 24 years at Simms Elementary School and does not plan on retiring.
