FFRW: Leave Oprah the Hell Alone!

The Florida Federation of Republican Women (FFRW) is boycotting the Oprah Winfery show because Oprah refused to allow any political candidate as a guest this season.

The 58-yr-old organization with 4,500 members has called for a boycott of "O" magazine and the Winfrey television program.

FFRW are pissed because, Oprah Winfrey, an African-American, and one of the most powerful women in entertainment refuses to use her TV show as a political platform for anyone. They are most upset because Oprah will not do an interview with Governor Sarah Palin, the republican vice-president candidate. What this is about is, said the Federations president, Linda Ivell. Oprah has built her empire and set herself up as a female leader, and somebody who keeps in touch with things that are important to women. How in the world can you say that a VP candidate that’s a woman, she added. Who has a very good chance of winning and absolutely knocked everybody’s socks off at the convention — how can that not be important enough to be on her show?

On her Web site, Oprah says: “The item in today’s Drudge Report is categorically untrue. There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show. At the beginning of this presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates. I agree that Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over." — Oprah Winfrey, September 5, 2008.

She also added Barack Obama has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show twice to discuss his books, once in January 2005 and once in October 2006. Both of Senator Obama’s appearances were made before he announced his candidacy and he has not appeared since.”

But truth be told, Oprah had made her decision not to have a political candidate several months ago and that was prior to Gov. Sarah Palin appearing on the political stage as McCain’s vice presidential candidate. Oprah had made it clear that she is not that fond of having politicians on her show. In a radio interview rebroadcast on her web site, Winfrey explains why it is the rare exception for her to have politicians as guests on her television talk show.

"The reason I don’t do politicians on the show is because you get that political speak thing," she says. "You ask the question. You have a limited amount of time and politicians are usually so rehearsed that you don’t get a real answer. And so, I’m sitting there grinning, smiling, when I know I havn’t gotten the answer. And to get the answer to one question with some clarity takes so much time that I, in the past, have just not done it."

This year, she says, Obama will be the lone presidential candidate to grace her studio. "If everybody knows I’m for Barack it would be really disingenuous of me to be sitting up there interviewing other people as though… pretending to be objective. So I won’t be doing anybody because of that, on my show."

If anything, let’s respect Oprah for been honest and not beating around the bush.

Let’s be real, Oprah had already said “I’m for Barack it would be really disingenuous of me to be sitting up there interviewing other people as though… pretending to be objective. So I won’t be doing anybody because of that, on my show.”

What else does the Florida Federation of Republican Women (FFRW) expect her to say.

Since Oprah is such a lady, I will say it on her behalf…..FFRW fuck off!

Chocolatecity.cc thanks for the article. I do believe that despite Oprah’s innumerable contribution to this world, she continues to be attacked.

Oh, by the way, just in case The Florida Federation of Republican Women (FFRW) are reading your blog, I want to tell them thanks for encouraging me to subscribe to the O Magazine.
