Bill and Hillary : All the world’s a democratic stage

A video recently surfaced of New York Senator Hilliary Clinton telling backers that her delegates should have a role in Denver. Despite the video, Barack Obama said he doesn’t anticipate any problems with Hillary Clinton supporters at the Democratic National Convention. Last week, Senator Clinton seemed to leave open the option for a symbolic roll-call vote at the convention later this month.

She also assured her supporters in an online chat that “Senator Obama and I are working together to make sure it’s a big success.”

Obama told reporters on his campaign plane that he talked with Clinton and her husband, and that they are enthusiastic about having a smooth convention.

She is very enthusiastic about the need for a unified party. I think we’re gonna have a terrific convention as is true in all conventions,” he said. “We’re still working out the mechanics of the four days and our staffs are in communication with Senator Clinton’s staffs but I don’t anticipate any problems.”

Meanwhile, former president, Bill Clinton appears to be lukewarm towards Obama. When asked in a recent ABC interview if Obama was ready to be president, his answer was: "You could argue that no one is ever ready to be president. I mean, I certainly learned a lot about the job my first year." The former president quickly added that Obama is "smart as a whip, so there’s nothing he can’t learn."

Speaking Thursday to reporters on the campaign trail, Obama described the ex-president as being "very supportive" of his candidacy.

"I couldn’t ask for him to be any more gracious than he’s been and supportive since the campaign ended," Obama said.

Several years ago, another guy by the name of Bill, that is Bill Shakespeare wrote what is now a famous monologue called “All the world’s a stage”. His famous speech compares the world to a stage and the different stages that man or mankind goes through within his/her life time. The stages of life or the seven stages of man are: infant, school-boy, lover, soldier, justice, pantaloon, and second childhood, "sans political teeth, sans political eyes, sans political taste, sans political everything."

In Shakespeare’s own words:

All the world’s a stage,

And all the men and women merely players:

They have their exits and their entrances;……..

Last scene of all,That ends this strange eventful history,Is second childishness and mere oblivion,Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

When Bill Shakespeare wrote his famous poem, I doubt he imagined that he would be indirectly referring to Bill and Hillary Clinton.

A modern day interpretation of the seventh stage of “All the world’s a stage,” would be of a man that is beginning to become the brunt of others’ jokes, he loses his firmness and assertiveness, and shrinks in stature and personality. He also loses his status and becomes a non-entity within his party.

From every indication, it appears as if the Clintons have reached the last stages of their political career and many are hoping they will realize that it’s time to gracefully exit the stage for the leading actor of a new play is about to make his entrance.
