The location, was chosen not only for the symbolism of its name, but because both candidates received exactly 107 votes in the western New Hampshire town in the primary.
Obama spokesman Dan Pfeiffer said the campaign was still finalizing the location for the rally, which will be open to the public. Hopefully they will be reserving 214 seats for the people who voted for them.
Unity is a town in Sullivan County, New Hampshire. The population was 1,530 at the 2000 census. The town includes the villages of East Unity, Quaker City, and West Unity.
First granted in 1753, the town was named “Buckingham” after John Hobart, 1st Earl of Buckinghamshire. In 1764, the town was named “Unity”.
As of the 2000 census, there were 1,530 people, 504 households, and 385 families residing in the town. There were 594 housing units at an average density of 16.1/sq mi.
The racial makeup of the town was 99.35% white, 0.07% African American, 0.13% Asian, and 0.46% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.72% of the population.
The median income for a household in the town was $41,594, and the median income for a family was $47,045. Males had a median income of $31,199 versus $24,833 for females. The per capita income for the town was $17,908. About 6.8% of families and 8.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.4% of those under age 18 and 1.4% of those age 65 or over.
