Clint Eastwood tells Spike Lee to shut his face

The bitter conflict between two of Hollywood’s well-known film directors reached a new level of exchange of words and accusation at the weekend as Spike Lee invoked the sins of white America’s father of slavery in response to Clint Eastwood’s comments to the Guardian on Friday. Lee took issue with the lack of African-Americans cast in Eastwood’s World War II films “Flags of Our Fathers” and “Letters from Iwo Jima,” saying “Clint Eastwood made two films about Iwo Jima that ran for more than four hours total, and there was not one Negro actor on the screen.”

In his response to Lee’s criticism of his second world war films for ignoring black soldiers, Eastwood said America’s most powerful black director, should “shut his face”.

But after the remarks were reported, Lee hit back, reminding Clint Eastwood that they were not “on a plantation”
