Is Hillary Clinton a fighter or a divider?

Obama now has a majority of pledged delegates to the Democratic Convention. Despite the daunting odds of overtaking Obama in the overall delegate count, Hillary Clinton remained defiant and promised to stay in the race. "You've never given up on me, because you know I've never given up on you," Clinton told supporters in Kentucky. With only two weeks and three contests remaining, Clinton's window of opportunity is quickly closing.

In last week's West Virginia primary, exit polls showed 27 percent of voters saying they'd choose McCain over Obama and 17 percent saying they wouldn't vote. Similar to West Virginia, Kentucky is largely blue-collar, white and rural, with a large percentage of older voters. Each of those demographics has consistently chosen Clinton over Obama in this year's primary campaign. Eighty-nine percent of the Kentucky voters polled Tuesday were white, 63 percent were 45 or older, and 66 percent did not have a college degree.

Many that were polled flatly stated that, as Obama seeks to become the first black candidate to win a major U.S. party's nomination, race played a role in their decision. Twenty-one percent of all respondents and 19 percent of whites said race was a factor, and 7 percent of all voters said it was the most important factor.

Over the decades, black Americans have had plenty of opportunities to vote for white people for president. And they have done so. But this is the first time that white Americans have a chance to vote for an African-American with a shot at the presidency. Some white Americans are turning themselves inside out to come up with excuses for why they're not supporting Obama. Sadly, there are places in this country today where white Americans are still raised to think of black Americans as inferior.

Mrs. Clinton is not stupid, she is playing on the sentiment of "hardworking white Americans," racist white,” “blue-collar white,” “rural white,” “uneducated white,” “poor white,” or whatever you call them. Mrs. Clinton appears to be stretching it and it appears as if she is prepare to burn the village and rebuild if she becomes the Democratic candidate for the White House.
