Tennessee GOP attacks Michelle Obama

The Tennessee Republican Party unveiled a Web video today highlighting comments Michelle Obama made when she said “I am proud of America for the first time in my adult life.” Michelle Obama is the target of a video by the Tennessee Republican Party ahead of her visit there. The four-minute video coincides with a visit to the state by Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama’s wife for a Democratic Party event Thursday evening. The video features several Tennesseans saying why they are proud of American while repeatedly cutting to Michelle Obama’s comments.

“The Tennessee Republican Party has always been proud of America. To further honor the occasion of Mrs. Obama’s visit, the Tennessee Republican Party has requested the playing of patriotic music by radio stations across the state,” said a statement on the party’s Web site that accompanied the video.

“While Mrs. Obama has trouble being proud of the country where she earned degrees from Princeton University and Harvard Law School and then became a multimillionaire, her husband makes statements that belittle average Americans’ response to the difficulties of life.”

The Tennessee Republican Party comparing of Mrs. Obama statement to the degrees she earned from Princeton University and Harvard Law School or becoming a multimillionaire is like a rapist telling his victim that she should be glad that he give her a $100 after raping her. From every indication it seems as if the Tennessee Republican Party is far removed and not in touch with reality.

As a reality check for the Tennessee Republican Party, it is just recently that some Blacks are beginning  to trust this country. Why would any black trust a country that have committed holocaust style crimes at a 9.5 Richter scale magnitude? Raping of Black slaves by their so-called slave masters, questionable relationships between so-called founding father and a defenseless female slave, the lynching of about 5,000 Blacks while White families laughingly viewed the bodies with their children, Black male intentionally infected with syphilis. Would you blame anyone for being proud of America for the first time in their adult life; especially when the opportunity of seeing an African American in the White House is becoming a reality?

Yes, I am proud of America for the first time in my adult life. But then again, the Tennessee Republican Party does not surprised me because history tells me that in 1881 Tennessee became the first state to enact Jim Crow laws. Jim Crow Laws required blacks and whites to ride in separate railroad cars. These laws were later applied to other public spaces and modes of transportation.

The Republican Party’s pathetic attempts to use the same smear tactics to win elections have failed in Mississippi, failed in Louisiana and will fail in November because the American people are looking for a positive vision of real change.
